The Travenque round

Image
Dear Limper What a week we have had here in the valley, With heavy rain last Monday and Tuesday the Limpers were forced to console themselves with a trip to Salobrena on Tuesday evening to a restaurant newly discovered by John and Marion, called Betty Blues and up by the castle, it is a little gem, with a refreshingly varied menu, delightful surroundings and a chef who keeps checking you are enjoying the food, it comes highly recommended, and I feel sure we will be back to sample more food in the near future. On Wednesday the A team went out on a mission to find new paths in the Sierra de Hueter Parque Natural a few kilometres outside Granada on the Guadix road. Even though we had to endure poor visibility and damp conditions we were able to ascertain that the parque offers good walking opportunities and will be featured in forth coming programs shortly. One member of the Lecrin Limpers has been pressing us for a while to find the location of a jazz bar in Granada, so on

Albunuelas walk

Dear Limper Well, the good weather finally arrived for our walk last Sunday, so while the rest of Europe was blanketed under snow we were basking in glorious hot sunshine. The walk was a circular one from Albunuelas, and involved going down into the ravine and crossing the Rio Soto and climbing up the opposite bank onto the plateau, whilst the climb was steeper than some had expected I don't think that anybody could be unimpressed by the spectacular views the climb afforded and in time the only memory will be of the snow covered peak of Caballo sticking out above the Almond blossom and not the stiff legs. It was at this point that Alan, who we had welcomed back into the group after his extended tour of Australia, went on walkabout again, and it was about 1 hour later that he reappeared, we are now looking for one of those extendable type dog leads that will enable him to wander off but we will be able to reel him in when he gets too far in front. We would also like

Walk around Albunuelas

Dear Limp member Well, the good weather we had been promised at the beginning of the week did not materialise on Sunday morning, after a night of heavy rain we awoke to howling gale force winds and a marked drop in temperatures. So it was somewhat of a surprise that anybody was fool enough to actually turn up at the appointed time. So with eight members suddenly finding a pressing reason for staying indoors and hugging the fire, four hardy souls wrapped in hats, scarves and gloves took to the paths and trails around Melegis. The chosen route was the recently discovered path from Melegis to Conchar. This quiet little known path is an absolute delight, having everything a walker desires, views, water and woods. So it was somewhat disconcerting to find that, in the 5 days since the paths discovery, some graffiti artist had come along and sprayed bright red arrows on every available tree, stone, and plastic pipe, whether it was nailed down, cemented down or just laying down, i

Next Sundays Walk

Dear Limper The good news is that Nick and Carol are only on holiday for a week and they return to the UK on Saturday. This means we can look forward to the imminent arrival of better weather, and the temperatures for this coming weekend are set to be in the 60s or for the ones amongst us who understand the foreigners way of measuring temperature it will be 17. I don't know about you but I always feel warmer when the temperature is measured in Fahrenheit. The planned walk this coming Sunday is a exciting one that takes us through a wonderful steep sided wooded gorge between Conchar and Melegis, and reminds me very much of the films you see set in the jungles of Borneo with the of Japs hiding in the bamboo swamps and tiger's around every corner. Logistically it is a difficult one to plan, as in being a linear walk, and not knowing who is going turn up. But the basics are that we take Pat's car to Melegis first thing Sunday Morning, then we all meet up at Chite

Cancelled walk

Dear Limpers With the continued grey skies and rain forecast to continue past Sunday, and with the imminent arrival this weekend of Nick and Carol, the well known harbingers of bad weather it is with deep regret that the walk this weekend is once again cancelled. Regards Limper Ps I am sorry about the blank emails going out, it is whenever I try to send to the group that I am having problems.
