1 May 2016 Melegis circular
This week we had a local circular walk from Melegis. I thought it would be impossible to lose anyone, after all we all live here.
The walk started with an important presentation ceremony. Mike had commissioned a plaque to be made by Marcel for Conchi, the winner of the 2015 Brownie points competition.
The walk started from the Puerta del Valle bar and headed off through the orange groves towards the castle. I know there are some bad feelings about this castle from the folks that live in Melegis, one citizen of the pueblo even tried to impose an entrance fee, but the fact remains it is officially recognised as Murchas castle which means it belongs to us, the good people of Lecrin. We had not been there long when we were invaded by a horde of marauding Cristianos, we surrendered without a fight, not wanting to put the women and children into slavery.
The walk continued to Muchas then along to Chite. There are not many streets in the village and it is difficult to get lost, especially when you live there. Somehow Perry managed it, he led Mark and Mike, the wise one, astray. We met up again some 15 minutes later after a frantic telephone call and some back tracking by Jan. I hope points are deducted for bad behaviour.
The walk continued on little used tracks down to the Embalse de Beznar, and then followed the path back towards Restabal. We were on the lookout for a suitable lunch stop when we came across the Banos de Melegis, finding the gates unlocked we went in and availed ourselves of the facilities. The Melegis jobs worth tried to extract even more money from us and he had not even cleaned it.
We continued the walk into Melegis and stopped at the bar for refreshment. An enjoyable day out and a big thank you to Marcel for the stone craft picture.
We walked 12.9 km, climbed 414 metres
