Cancelled walk

Dear Limper
Due to the very cold, wet, snowy, windy, foggy weather. Put together whatever combination you fancy because we are having the lot, the walk to Monachil is cancelled. Val's Birthday party and Tapa is still on at Arthur's house, Chite from 2 pm Sunday.

Lecrin Valley Limper Dear all To get over last weeks hard walk and to rest the group up in preparation for the attempt of the summit of Mulhacen, all we had arranged was a very easy stroll and a picnic, so a full turn out was expected. So it was slightly worrying when at the appointed meeting place and hour, there were at least 7 missing. From past experience we knew something terrible must have gone wrong, as they would never pass up on a picnic. Little John´s group had got delayed by a misplaced telephone request for a pickup. Walk 10th August 2008

Sunday saw the first of this seasons campo fires, and at one stage it put in doubt Sunday´s walk, as it was in the barranco de Rio Verde the valley that we had intended to walk in. Fortunately because of our planned late start, it was an afternoon walk, the Bomberos and the helicopters had succeeded in bringing the fire under control, and they were just damping down by the time we arrived at the other side of the valley. This weeks walk was split, with a very easy section to start with along the top of the gorge for the ones who wanted a short walk, and a trip up the steep sided gorge of the Rio Durcal for the ones who wanted to go further. The gorge walk has lost some of its beauty over the years as successive storms have somehow altered the river flow. When we first discovered it you walked through a series of waterfalls, now there is no water in the river at all, but it is still a spectacular gorge to walk in. This week we did not have a walk, just a BBQ in Dilar. My personal assistant, Antonia and myself have spent weeks organising this BBQ, we thought we had nailed it down to the finest detail but it still ended in chaos. This is the first time we have had a BBQ in a restaurant, the idea was a good one as we had visited this bar February whilst walking in the area and the tapas was amazing. What we had not taken into account was that the chaotic service we received on our first visit was just a sample of what they could achieve when we went for a meal.  The venue was superb with loads of shade from the trees and a garden like setting. It is close enough to the river to keep the temperature down, it must have been the most refreshing place in Granada.
