Planned Walk 8th October

Dear Limper The planned Izbor walk for the 8th October has been postponed, Because we have to fit in a high altitude walk before the weather deteriorates. This walk is a unique opportunity for everyone to experience walking amongst the Giants! The highest mountains in Spain, Mulhacen at 3479 Meters, Veleta, Caballo, and the best bit there is no effort involved. All the hard work is done by a bus run by the Sierra Nevada National park which takes us from Capileira to the Mirador de Trevélez at 2700 meters. leaving you with a virtually level high altitude walk along the old Veleta mountain road. The intended destination is the Glacial lake of the Laguna de Caldera but because we use the same route for both the outward and return journey you are under no pressure to walk further than what you feel comfortable with. We catch the 11.00 am bus from Capileira which drops us off about 1 hour later at the top and we catch the return bus at 4.15 leaving us with about 4 hours to exp...

Lecrin Valley Limper Dear all To get over last weeks hard walk and to rest the group up in preparation for the attempt of the summit of Mulhacen, all we had arranged was a very easy stroll and a picnic, so a full turn out was expected. So it was slightly worrying when at the appointed meeting place and hour, there were at least 7 missing. From past experience we knew something terrible must have gone wrong, as they would never pass up on a picnic. Little John´s group had got delayed by a misplaced telephone request for a pickup. While they were correcting this, they came across Rob and Sandy, who some of you may know as Hanna, or Barbara, I thought it was only on the Costa del Sol , that people went under different names ! Rob and Sandy, who have had a difficult week with in-laws visiting them, decided to meet us some place where the rest of us weren’t. Walk Sunday 2 December 2018 Sierra Manar

This week we went walking in the Sierra Manar, the range of hills behind Dilar.  The walk had been postponed from a few weeks back when it was raining every day, it’s not a walk to do when the ground is wet and muddy. The weather forecast for this Sunday was for sunshine and temperatures of 21 degrees, perfect walking conditions.  The walk starts from the Ermita Nueva and heads up a gentle slope through Olive trees.  After 1 km the path follows the tree line on what at first looks like a level track. It soon becomes apparent that it’s not level at all, but a series of switchbacks with steep ups and downs.  There were only 9 in the group, and we all walked together, chatting and enjoying the warm sunshine. Nobody thought to check that we all turned onto a path into the forest.
