Walk Sunday 25 February 2018 Almond Blossom

Image
It’s that time of the year again, when the worst of the winter weather has left us, the temperatures are rising and the whole valley is awash with the first signs of Spring. With the Almond trees in full bloom it was time to do our traditional Almond blossom walk from Saleres. It had to be last weekend, which should have been the big end of the month walk, because we are forecast to get the wettest week I can ever remember. There will be be so much rain our dams will be overflowing, and we will be selling our water to the UK when they get their traditional 2 weeks of dry weather. Then again if things go as usual we will get a couple of damp days.  It was grey overcast day when we met in Saleres, and it was great to see so many people, there were 18 of us when we set off but 2 had to turn back on the first hill as they were overcome with the lingering effects from a cold, which once you have had it seems to last for weeks. Hilary had the right idea, she got Graeham to

Walk Sunday 18th February 2018 Lanajaron circular

I can’t keep track of the weather forecasts at the moment, they change by the hour and it seems like each foreaster is trying to outdo the others in getting it wrong. So for the next few weeks just bring everything from shorts and Bikini tops ( ladies only) to full mountain wet weather gear. Our walk on Sunday was a case in point, at the beginning of the week it was forecasting heavy rain but everyday it got less and less. By Sunday we were walking in sunshine. Our walk was a circular one from Lanjaron. We went down through the park to the castle carpark, and then down to the river. I had seen what I thought was a new path alongside the river, it was only about 100 metres long and then it linked into our normal route. It turned out that there wasn’t a path but a very nice man with a pack horse said we could cross his land and his neighbours.  What the neighbours would think about it I don’t know. Anyway we were soon back on the official path. Over the years they ha

Walk Sunday 11 February 2018 Guajar Faraguit

Like the rest of Europe we have been experiencing some very cold weather of late. In an effort to try and get warm we went down the hill to Guajar Faraguit.  The walk starts by the waterfall on the road up to Guajar Alto and it was 8 degrees when we arrived. Whilst I would not class that as hot it was 6 degrees warmer than Chite.  The big thing about this walk is, you may be cold at the carpark but, 10 minutes into the walk you will certainly have warmed up. For the first kilometre the path goes straight up the hillside. I take my hat off to the person who thought it was a good idea to make a path here, the hillside is virtually sheer. Shedding  clothes as we went we eventually arrived at the top where there is a viewpoint with views up to Guajar Alto and beyond.  As the old saying goes ¨what goes up must come come down¨ and the beauty of this walk is that is what it does. The whole walk is a series of climbs and descents, never achieving a great height but giving you
