Walk Sunday 11 February 2018 Guajar Faraguit

Like the rest of Europe we have been experiencing some very cold weather of late. In an effort to try and get warm we went down the hill to Guajar Faraguit.
The walk starts by the waterfall on the road up to Guajar Alto and it was 8 degrees when we arrived. Whilst I would not class that as hot it was 6 degrees warmer than Chite.
The big thing about this walk is, you may be cold at the carpark but, 10 minutes into the walk you will certainly have warmed up. For the first kilometre the path goes straight up the hillside. I take my hat off to the person who thought it was a good idea to make a path here, the hillside is virtually sheer. Shedding  clothes as we went we eventually arrived at the top where there is a viewpoint with views up to Guajar Alto and beyond.
As the old saying goes ¨what goes up must come come down¨ and the beauty of this walk is that is what it does. The whole walk is a series of climbs and descents, never achieving a great height but giving you a gentle workout along the way.
Eventually we arrived at the castle at Guajar Faraguit. As is usual this castle is in ruins but what remains of it is superb. One day we will return with our flag and claim the castle for Lecrin.
Following an undulating path amongst the Almond blossom trees we headed off back in the direction of the cars. One thing that was troubling me a bit was the river we had to cross. Sometimes it’s only a stream which you can jump across, at others it’s a river and you have to paddle across or in Plym’s case swim across. Fortunately this week it was just a stream, so my reputation for dry river crossings remains intact.
It had turned into a gorgeous day and we had been walking in T-shirts so we thought it was a good idea to go to the bar in Faraguit and take in some much needed sunshine. Even though we were sat in the sun this side of the valley was freezing, we sat there shivering, we didn’t stay long enough to get a tan.
It was only a short walk but it was very enjoyable.

We walked 8.00 km and climbed 604 metres.
