Dear all
This Sundays outing started with us all meeting in Chite, this caused a major traffic snarl up, the like of which has not been seen before in Chite. Once again the walk was a linear one, this time setting off from Albunuelas with a stopping off point in Restabal for the easy walkers. Trying to arrange these outings, using the minimum number of cars, is becoming a logistical nightmare, and I feel sure that one day it will all go belly up for us, when after a long walk we will find the wrong cars in the wrong location, but today it all went fine. We had a small deviation at the start of the walk in Albunuelas when we were unable to find the little alley way that leads out of the village, someone had painted out the GR7 sign. But the problem was easy rectified and we soon found ourselves walking through the fertile valley that separates Albunuelas and Salares, the path is virtually all down hill and is very easy going. A coffee stop was made in Salares before we walked into Restabal and the bar Sifon. The poor landlord of this quiet bar must be getting used to us calling in on him and eating a weeks worth of his delicious tapa in one session, he waved us straight through to the outdoor patio, only in Spain would you happily sit in the middle of a long since abandoned building site on upturned beer crates. Bar Sifon is a convenient half way point where the easy downhill section finishes and the uphill section back into Chite starts. So we said goodbye to 3 walkers who then returned to Chite by car, leaving 15 die-hards to cope with the rising temperature and the hill back up into Chite. Tapa was held at the lodge, thank you to every one for all the outstanding food. Our walk this coming Sunday the 27th May is the many times postponed walk up Boca de la Pesca above Cumbres Verde. The walk has been scheduled a number of times in the past and has had to be cancelled due to poor weather, so be prepared for a wet Sunday. We have to drive to the start of the walk at the Cerro de Sevilla car park. The path is then level and very easy, leaving only a short easy climb up to the summit of Boca de la Pesca, the 360 degree views over the Sierra Nevada and Granada are well worth the effort. As an alternative for those who don't want to climb there is a short level path to a view point. We then follow the path as it gently winds down into Cumbres Verde, were we may be able to take refreshment in a local hostelry if anybody wants to! before returning to the car park via the forest road. The walk should take about 4 hours and is classed suitable for Olwyn. We will return to Padul and the bar Los Romeros for tapa. If you want to go please meet in the car park in Niguelas at 9 am. Guillermo from the Normadas walking shop in Durcal informs me that he will give all Limpers a 15% discount on purchases of sports equipment, so don't forget when you pay him a visit to mention you are in the walking group. This weeks picture shows the group on the path coming into Restabal. They are Mick, Liz, Phil, Annie, John, Graham, Sandra, Carl, Gerry, Chris, Olwyn, Charlie, Quina, Al, Ross, Gillian, Peter. This and other photos can be seen by following the link http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/holidaysingranada/LecrinValleyLimpers Have a good week.
