Walk 14 April 2013 Bubion

At the Mirador Tajos del Angel

Spring has arrived in Spain, finally, after months of rain, the clouds have gone and the sun has returned. The hills are green and the spring flowers are popping up everywhere.
Our walk this week was from Bubion and we managed to walk on sections of two long distance paths. We started out on the GR7 as it left Bubion heading out towards Pitres. We only stayed on this path for about 15 minutes before turning off, heading up towards the Sulayr path. After heading up hill for around 1 hour we arrived at the Mirador Tajos del Angel. This was a great place for a short break and to stop and admire the scenery. With the 3 villages of the Porqueira gorge below, and the snow covered peaks of the Sierra Nevada above, it is an incredible place for a stop, there are even seats and comfy rocks to sit on. An important consideration when Dave is on the walk.
Continuing along the Sulayr path we continued upwards until we reached an altitude of 1837 metres, our highest point so far this year. It was now time to start heading back, so once again we headed off towards Pitres. We had not gone very far before there were calls for a lunch stop. With both Conchi and Graham on the walk, what else could we expect? With no picnic tables in sight we had no option but to sit by the side of path for our lunch. I am sorry Dave, but I did not have an option, I was getting pressured into stopping.
After this we rejoined the GR7 for what was mostly a downhill track back to Bubion, read mostly to mean there were some uphill bits as well.
We were running a bit late so there was no stopping for a beer, even if the bars did look inviting.
In the afternoon we went round to Plym and Tony’s for tapas.

We walked 12.1 km and climbed 641 metres.
