1st December 2013 Circular walk from Nigúlas

It was another cold morning on Sunday as we stood in the car park waiting for folk to arrive. Everyone had their hats, coats and gloves on, and were stamping their feet and flapping their arms. Eventually we numbered 27 and I thought it was time to go before anymore arrived, 2 more managed to sneak in at the back whilst we were making our way out of the village.
The walk started from the carpark in Nigúelas and headed down hill before turning off and heading to Acequias. Hilary had decided to do a shorter walk suitable for the kids so we stopped in the plaza for a full group photography session. If the group keeps expanding Conchi will have to buy a wider angle lens.
Hilary took her group of 5 on the lower level route and we picked up the GR7 as it headed uphill towards Lanjaron. After 3 km Arthur and Mike decided to take a shortcut back to the bar. The path continued uphill for a further km and as this was the end of our climbing we stopped for a quick snack. We didn’t stay long because whilst we were climbing we had warmed up nicely but, sitting about eating our sarnies, we started to go cold.
Packing up we followed the path down back towards Nigúelas, where we met Plym who was out looking for us. Goodness knows where she would have ended up if she hadn’t found us. Jan was at the back trying to keep track on the numbers in the group, but with all the comings and goings he was having a difficult time.
Next week we are going to put an electronic tag on Conchi so we can track her on the GPS as she kept disappearing to take photos. The autumn colours are still stunning, particularly along the acequia path back into the village, it makes a great way back. We made a slight detour and went to look at Jelle and Frank’s garden, it was well worth the effort and it will be a great place for tapas in the spring.
We then headed for Miguel’s bar for beer and tapas which is always a treat. We found Mike and Arthur there, looking very jolly, but they claimed they were only on their second beer. It must have been sitting in the sun that had given them rosy cheeks.
We think everyone was accounted for, but if things continue to get out of control we will have to devise some sort of numbering system to keep track of all the comings and goings.

We walked 10.9 km and climbed 526 meters.
