21st September 2014 Beznar circular walk

Hi
This week the weather forecast had been predicting rain for the weekend so I had found a local walk on hard tracks, one we could shorten if it turned wet.
We met at the crossroads in Talara, the sky was grey and the cloud base was low but the temperature was perfect for walking. We headed off in the direction of Chite bajo, and then down into the barranco that runs down to the Pantano de Beznar. The path kept crossing a small stream and it was quite slippy. I kept expecting to hear a SPLAT as someone went in but no, everyone remained dry.
The path alongside the lake was overgrown in places, some in the group called for the man with the sharp Machete to clear it. I maintained it looked like a weeks job so we just struggled through it.
We stopped at the Beznar recreation area for a drink and Javi and Rosa joined us. Seemingly they had been tracking us since Talara, they had gone for a coffee before the start of the walk and when they came out we had gone. Losing two before the start of the walk sets a new record for us.
Continuing into Beznar we stopped for a photo with the Mosquetero. One of the many bronze statues our Alcalde has erected in the Lecrin valley.
Up until now the walk had all been downhill and, as everyone in the group knows, we don’t do downhill walks. So now was the time to climb back up to Talara. There is a high level acequia that runs along the hillside with a good track running alongside it. It makes an excellent return path with good views over the valley.
We arrived back in Talara with plenty of time to spare so we stopped off for drinks and tapas at bar Finity.
The rain kept away all day but we are now promised thunderstorms. Our long dry summer looks to be nearly over.
This week we had 25 in the group
We walked 11.8 km and climbed 325 metres.

In the afternoon we went around to Arthur’s for tapas and we all had an enjoyable afternoon in the garden. Mark brought some home grown vegetables for us all to share between us and to raise money for charity.
Hi Stuart
Can you thank everyone for their generosity, the veg raised 30 euros which I will send on to practical action . If anyone is interested they can look up on www.practicalaction.org.
                                     Thanks Mark and Anne
