Walk Sunday 2 November 2014 The Windmills of Albuñuelas

For this weeks adventure we introduced a new game called dodging the bullets.
Our walk was to the Windmills of Albuñuelas, not the romanticized Don Quixote ones of La Mancha, but the modern wind turbines we all have to live with.
We had discovered this walk earlier in the year but then it was a 25km outing, a bit long for a Sunday stroll, so we have split the walk into two parts, we will do the second part in a few weeks time

The walk started from the ridge above Albuñuelas and set off down into the upper reaches of the barranco de la Luna, this was not our destination and we were soon climbing out and heading for the hills.
In the distance we could hear the occasional bang of a rifle going off, it, being November I assumed it was the local hunters out trying to decimate what was left of the local wildlife. The further we walked the closer we got to what now appeared to be a full blown war. I am sure they were using machine guns. In an effort at trying to protect the younger members of the group ( me included ) we tried to persuade Distinguished Mike to take the lead and become the sacrificial Cannon fodder, in his bright red jacket he would have made a good target. He would have none of it and promptly went and stood behind Cees waving a white flag.
Safely through the war zone we continued the walk up past the Wind Turbines and then stopped for lunch and some fine views over to Caballo. We took a different route back, making the walk a circular one. I don’t know what was in Cees’s sandwiches but he set off like a Bat out of Hell with Jan tagging along. This was fine until they took a wrong turning.  I let them get far enough ahead and then called them back.
The weather was good and the temperatures were ideal for walking. It was a good walk and we will have to do it again, but not in November.

In the afternoon we all went around to Mike and Sheila’s for tapas.

We  walked 15.1 km and climbed 607 metres
