Walk Sunday 27 March 2016 Bermejales

Hi
This week we had a gem of a day out. We went on the Grand Granada Canyon Adventure, this was a walk we discovered a few weeks ago and have been raving about ever since.
We met at the BP garage in Cozvijar and, as we were just standing around discussing the walk, there was an almighty crash behind us. We expected to see bodies lying on the ground and a number of cars written off, but no. It was Plym who had driven into a plant pot, not your average garden size plant pot but one suited to a garage forecourt, and this time she was wearing her glasses. Perhaps she should have gone to Specsavers.
With 30 people on the walk we needed eight cars as we had to take some cars to the end of the walk and leave them and then get the drivers back to Bermejales.
We set off in a long convoy and when we arrived in Bermejales all the passengers were able to enjoy a coffee in the bar whilst they waited for the drivers to return.
To say that this is one of the most spectacular walks ever is an understatement. This is a true Boys Own  adventure playground. There are no signs or anything to point you  to the start of it. You just walk out on the rim of the barranco before dropping down to the Rio Cacin. The path follows the rio for the next 6.5 kms, twisting and turning, raising and falling as it wanders through the most spectacular scenery ever.
With so many in the group it was a slow walk and all dignity was lost as you were hauled over or pushed up the next big rock. . We had ladders to climb up vertical rock faces. There are ropes to hang on to, to help you up and down some of the steeper drops. We had rivers to cross on true Indiana Jones style swinging bridges, but I must admit some of the techniques used on the crossings don’t threaten Harrison Ford’s job. We only had one spot of bother when Martine lost ½ of her glasses in the river, she had lost the other half a few years ago.
Conchi was the Brownie point appointee this week and I must say there was  some buttering up to her going on, but she was not taken in by these despicable antics. I feel sure she will award the points wisely.
We all survived our big adventure and to celebrate we went back to the bar in Bermejales for a drink. We were just finishing up when it started to rain so we made a hasty departure.
Congratulations to everyone who did the walk, you were a true fearless Limper.

We walked 7 km, climbed 276 metres.
