Walk Sunday 18 March 2018 Talara circular

This week there no were firm plans as to where we were going to walk, such is the weather at the moment it’s impossible to commit to anything,
The basic plan was that we would meet in Talara and go for a coffee if it was raining. I was most surprised that anyone actually did turn up, the forecast was not good but we were getting desperate after so many cancelled walks. Fortunately it was fine so we set off walking in the direction of Mondujar castle. There are a lot of tracks up there so we could lengthen or shorten the route depending on when it started to rain.
Conditions at the castle were good, well, at least it wasn’t raining and there was even a bit of blue sky, something we haven’t seen for a long time. One of the walk options was to go up to the GR7  Niguelas/ Lanjaron track but it’s a long way down if we got caught in the rain which was surely coming. Instead we followed a track across the valley, we were going to have a look at the secret tunnel that was the water supply for the castle but it is on private land and the farmer was out working in the fields. Instead we continued up to the road.
It was still fine so we followed the road up hill. The idea was just to go up ½ km but somehow we missed the turning. I don’t think anyone noticed that we had to retrace our steps back down the road.
We could see in the distance the rain making its way towards us. The water proofs were zipped up, we were prepared, it could do what it liked. It was not going to spoil our walk. Miraculously  the rain went around us. Everywhere else got wet, but we, the chosen ones, remained dry. We even had time for a picnic. Apart from a light dizzle on the way back it remained fine.
We stopped off in Talara for refreshments.

We walked 10.3 km and climbed 492 metres.
