Walk 12 May 2013 Prado Negro

The group at the BBQ site

This week was our picnic weekend, we had a short walk and a big BBQ.
We went to the Prado Negro recreation area, this is a great place to have a party, there are plenty of BBQs, tables and shade and, of course, stunning countryside.
The area is always popular and it is necessary to arrive early to secure a place, well in our case with the expected turnout we needed two BBQ pits and 3 tables.
The walkers arrived around 10 am, along with Caroline who had volunteered to guard our camp. Mark and Rafa provided backup in case of trouble but they were not a lot of good, with one having a pot leg and the other a walking stick.
17 walkers set off on along a delightful track down to a big stream which we had to cross, fortunately someone had made a bridge, well they had put 3 logs across it. Some photographers stood poised waiting for that killer photograph, fortunately we all got safely across. We were heading for a waterfall, the last time we looked for it the river was dry, this time we were in luck. Last week we were spoilt by an almighty waterfall up in Cazorla and whilst this could not compare it was still worth looking at. From here we went into the pueblo of Pardo Negro and enjoyed a beer in the local bar. It was only a short walk back on the road to the picnic site and, by the time we arrived Grahame the fire chief had the fires well alight, and with everyone else arriving we had a group of 32. With every BBQ pit taken it was a good job we had staked an early claim and it was not long before they were put into good use producing some tasty dishes. Along with all the meat we had taken salads and nibbles. It was a great afternoon so a big thanks to everyone who helped to make it a success.

We walked 7.5 km and climbed 236 metres
