15 June 2014 Restabal circular walk

This week we returned to Restabal to resume a walk we started a couple of weeks ago but had to abandon due to torrential rain. On Friday I thought we were heading for a repeat drenching when one of the weather forecasts was predicting heavy rain and thunderstorms. Fortunately it was just the guy at the weather center who was winding me up, for most of the walk there wasn’t a cloud in the sky.
The Ayuntamiento must have heard about our problems a couple of weeks back, when a section of the path we were on turned into a muddy swamp in the thunderstorm, because this week they have started to concrete the track, so no problems here from now on, (if you like walking on concrete).
The walk was not a long walk one and it needed something to raise the pulse a bit, otherwise I would be inundated with complaints that I was letting standards slip by making things too easy for the limper virgins. There is a delightful little track that climbs straight up the hillside from the river. It was ideal for a little cardio vascular exercise. The track then continues its climb, but at a much more sedate rate,  heading for the trees where we found some welcome shade in the forest.
We stopped for an early lunch before heading back to Restabal by way of the abandoned village.
It had been a warm day and a hot walk so we decided to go to Bar Jovi for some refreshment and tapas.
In the afternoon we went to Conchi’s Cortijo for tapas and a pleasant afternoon in the garden.
The thunderstorm stayed away all day, even after the clouds had started to build in the late afternoon.

We walked 11.2 km and climbed 469 metres.
