28 June Rio Borosa Cazorla

Our walk this weekend was on Saturday, and we went to the Rio Borosa in the Parque Natural Cazorla and it was spectacular.
We had done part of this walk last year when we had our away weekend to Cazorla, but we did not have sufficient time to do the complete walk.
This time we decided to do it as a day walk departing at 6am from Cozvijar and drove the 220km to the start of the walk. Dave, Julie, Antonia y Fernando did it the easy way they went up Friday night and camped. Mind they were still awake at 6am, when the local Cockerel announced daybreak.
To make things a little easier Mike and myself split the driving, we will do this again the next time we have a long journey, it worked well and we arrived spot on schedule, these GPS devices are amazing at calculating times, even if they don’t know the easiest route through Cazorla.
The walk starts by following the Rio Borosa, this is a wonderful green track that criss crosses the river umteen times as it makes its way up the steep sided valley following the fast flowing crystal clear river, with rock pools, perfect for taking a cooling dip in.
Eventually you reach the Linarejos waterfall, this is a truly amazing spectacle, it must be at least a 75 metre drop and the path crosses across the base of it.
This was the destination for our walk last year, and we thought it could not get any better. We were wrong, the best was yet to come. The path continued to climb through a boulder strewn landscape, alongside vertical rock faces and rock pools. Eventually the path reaches an acequias and follows it into a tunnel. It was pitch black inside, even though there were windows cut into the rock face every 50 metres. From which you could look out of and down into the valley far below. Fortunately we had taken torches with us, they were a great help in guiding us along the path, even so Cees managed to walk into a protruding rock, luckily it was only with his head, so not a lot of damage.
You emerge from the tunnel into a completely different valley, it’s like you have been in a time machine and entered into another world. This one had a lake and towering mountains, rivers that appeared out of rocks, Eagles and Vultures soaring above in search victims who had entered their hidden kingdom. We stopped for lunch at the Nacimiento de aguas Negras, a very nice quiet shady spot, for 5 minutes. Word must have got out that the Limpers had discovered a new land, because ½ of the worlds population suddenly descended on our picnic spot. With our peace and tranquility disturbed we decided it was time to make our return trip back along our outward route, we did have 232 km still to go. The trip back was just as exciting with different views and delights around every corner. Our original plan was to head straight home once we had reached the cars but we were ahead of schedule so we all stopped in the pueblo of Arroyo Frio. B efore we said goodbye to the campers who were spending another night in Cazorla. We drove straight back swapping drivers on the way. Only one word of criticism about Mike’s driving. He lost 1 minute along the route somewhere, even though he was under constant pressure to catch up from his co-pilot Cees. I don’t expect we can always keep to schedule.
An absolutely unbelievable fabulous walk, it had everything, rivers, mountains, trees, waterfalls, tunnels, lakes, birds, wild flowers, it even had girls in Bikinis bathing in the rock pools. What more can anyone ask for.
It goes to the top of the list of great Limper walks, with everyone voting 10 out of 10 for it.

We walked 22.3 km and climbed 648 meters.
