Walk Sunday 6 September 2015 Siletta

Hi
The  weather forecast for Sunday was not looking promising, with rain promised later in the day but by 7am there was no sign of the promised wet stuff, the walk was on and 17 of us were waiting in Marchena at 8.30.
My confidence in German efficiency and time keeping was shattered when Ursula was 25 minutes late for the start, she kept texting to say she was on the way, Unfortunately I had not realised she was planning a different start time to the rest of us. By using all my notable diplomatic skills we were able to avoid a major international incident. Dave and Angela would have been proud of me.
Our destination was Siletta and we had a short drive to the onion factory for the start of the walk. To start with the the track follows a level course across the campo. There were a few complaints that the path was not strictly level, but, compared to where we were going it was level, I inadvertently had forgotten  to point out our destination.
There is a level bit around the edge of a quarry and I think some in the group were that pleased to be walking on the flat that they did not notice the sheer drop on their left.
The walk continued in a steady climb up to the Ventana. A giant rock with a big hole in the middle of it, always a good place for a photo opportunity. From here it is only a short hop to the saddle of Siletta and then a quick scramble for those who wanted to go to the top. There was a call for the lunch stop to be taken here as there are good views in all directions but there was a cool breeze blowing and I knew somewhere with some comfy logs to sit on.
We were on the downward leg now and back into the forest and into an area that had suffered from the gales last November. The wind had felled a lot of trees that are still lying about. These make excellent bench seats even if there are no tables to go with them.
After lunch we continued on our downward return journey through the forest and back to the cars.
The rain fortunately kept away all the time we were walking and, like last week, just gave us a quick shower once we were in the cars. The thunderstorm did arrive later, during the night, and this time it gave everything a thorough soaking.

We walked 15.01km and climbed 749 metres.
