Walk Sunday 4 October 2015 Pinos del Valle

This week we had a local walk that started above Pinos del Valle.
We had a convoy of 5 cars for the 4km drive on a compo road to the start of the walk. There were a few complaints from some of the drivers about the state of the road, but we all arrived at the start of the walk safe and well.
Once again Dave was leading this easy circular walk but, after a couple of kms, I decided to reduce the pressure he was under and took over at the front. We had only gone about 1 km when Dave announced we had taken a wrong turn. I shrugged this damning criticism off as a training exercise for him, I don’t think anyone else noticed my error.
Returning back along the track we picked up the right path and continued the climb up on to the ridge. From here the views opened up over Los Guajares and down to the coast, up until now our views were of the Sierra Nevada, well what we believed to be the Sierra Nevada as they were covered in low clouds, which increasingly were getting darker and it looked like we might get wet.
We stopped for lunch at the highest point of the walk and then set off on the downhill return track. This used to be a drivable road but now the upper reaches are impossible except to the most adventuras. The path twists and turns as it slowly makes its way back to the cars.
The drive back was a bit more exciting, with Plym leading the way and the rest of us following some distance behind. We rounded a corner to find Plym’s car hanging over a ditch at the side of the road. Normally this would entail getting the Grua to come and drag it out but, she was blocking the road and the rest of us were looking forward to our tapas. So, all the big beefy guys in the group decided to grab a corner of the car and lift it out. With the car safely back on the road things nearly turned disastrous when it set off by itself down the road, the hand brake was not engaged. A quick check round discovered no discernible damage so we set off again. I am pleased to say we all made it back safe and well. Plym brings a new meaning to the term “ Off roading”.

We walked 11.8 km and climbed 437 metres.

In the afternoon we had a double tapas, the first course was at Josette's and for the second we went round to Hilary and Graeme’s.

Brownie point report

Our Brownie point Jefe was unable to walk this week so no points were won or deducted, which from my point of view was quite fortuitous as I would have lost every one of the points I had gained over the last 10 months if the DWO had been on the walk..

Planned future walks, items marked in red have changed since last week.

Tapas dates, to enable us to introduce some new walks to the group we are going to try only having tapas once or twice a month. It will make it easier to plan the routes as we don’t have to rush back home at the end of the walk.
Penciled in dates for future Tapas, 25 October Ray & Caroline, 1 November no tapas big walk, 8 November Jan and Martine, 6 December Olwyn and Stuart, 10 January Cees and Marjan. Dates are not set in concrete, so if you can't do these dates don't worry, we can rearrange them. If you would like your name adding to the list of dates, or the dates amending, just let me know.

2016 Calendar.
There is just 3 more walks to go to enter your photos for the 2016 Calendar.
Log on to the Facebook page and vote for your favorite September photos.
Notes for our photographers, landscape photos work best, I have to crop portrait ones to fit the calendar. The sooner you put your photos on facebook the more votes you will get.
