Walk Sunday 20 December 2015 Padul

Summer has arrived early, everyone is back in T shirts and skimpy tops. flowers are blooming and even the local animals are walking around with their offspring. There is no snow on the mountains and it is a long time since we have seen any rain. What a fantastic winter we are having. No doubt we will pay for it with a wet spring, or when we have nothing to drink in the summer.
This week we had organised a very easy walk after a special request from Conchi. After a big debate within the group we decided to do a linear walk that necessitated driving to the start of the walk and then walking back to Padul.
We met in Padul by the kiosk and it was good to see Elisa and Jesus after all this time. They had returned from Scotland for a holiday, eager to check out if the sun was still shining, as they had not seen it for 18 months. Sadly Conchi was unable to join us as she was sunbathing on the beach in Malaga as we were tramping down the hillside.
The logistics of the walk meant we left one car in Padul and then, with 3 cars, we drove out on the Padul / Otiva road for about 10 kms. We had also arranged to meet up with Hilary, who was going to meet us part way after walking in the opposite direction.
I had planned a gentle stroll back to Padul, but, from the start it appeared as if the ones out in front wanted to set a new record for the walk, they were off, the rest of us running to keep up.
The route is easy is as it follows a campo road heading back towards Padul. We stopped for a quick bite to eat around 11am but moved off when we thought the local hunters were going to ambush us, we did try to surrender to one guy but he let us go, we were obviously not to his taste.
Near to Padul we met up with Hilary and Maria Jose, we were going so fast they had only been walking a few minutes. When we mentioned we were heading for the bar they turned around and accompanied us back into the town.
We stopped at the newest tourist attraction in Padul, the Mammoth, it’s enormous and everyone was out to view it, we had to queue to get our photo taken with it.

We walked 10.3 km and climbed 125 metres.
There was no tapas this week
Can I just wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a big thank you to everyone for the Christmas card and presents, I will spend the money wisely.

Can I just mention that last week Dave and Julie did not walk as they were representing their swimming club in a competition in Jaen against the best in Andalucia. They swept the board, beating all comers and setting new records. Well done to you both.
