Walk Sunday 27 December 2015 Velez de Benuadalla

Hi.
I wasn’t able to go on the Sunday Christmas walk so Cees offered to organise  it, and show everyone around his village. He is always wittering on about what a beautiful place it is. I always thought he was a bit jealous of  the rest of us, the true limpers who live up in the Lecrin Valley, but, after listening to some of the people who went on the walk and seeing the photos I will admit I was wrong, it is the Beautiful Village of Velez de Benaudalla. Thank you Cees for leading the walk.
Walk Sunday 27th December.
Kees has asked me to write a few words about our Sunday walk. He was a bit worried that if he wrote it he would simply wax lyrically about the Beautiful Village of Velez de Benaudalla and drive everybody nuts.
So!
Here goes!
We met at 9.30 in front of the Magnificent church in the centre of the most Wonderful Village of Velez de Benaudalla. Without further ado Kees led us up through the Charming streets of this Fascinating Village to the Nacimiento, the birthplace of the stream that serves this Jewel of Andalucía. The water bubbles up out of the ground into a small shallow pond that has magic powers of health and love, also home to some jolly big black fish; how they got there beats me!
We then headed off up to the Castle, the Crowning glory of Velez, picking John up on the way, he must have decided to have a bit of a sleep in. Its quite a steep walk up to the Castle and Kees, very thoughtfully, had parked his van at the bottom to be available for anybody who needed a lift up the climb. When I asked for a ride up the hill he totally ignored me!
This most Majestic of Castles explored, Kees led us off into the countryside above the Spectacular Village. On the rocky path Brenda took a stumble, Martin, her husband, walking next to her, let her crash to the ground. One week he hauls Stuart back from certain death, and the next he lets his wife bite the dust; there's no understanding some folk!
The countryside explored we headed for the Jardin Nacari. Generalife eat your heart out. Nacari is a beautifully laid out garden, a mixture of trees and flowers and vegetables interwoven with a network of acequias, although in places it could have done with a bit of Jan and Martine's tender loving care. When we started going round the water was not flowing, but by the time we finished Kees had persuaded them to turn the taps on and we were treated to a beautiful waterfall tumbling down over the rocks and filling up the acequias. Steve, always young at heart, was like a little boy fascinated by the progress of the clear crystal liquid scurrying through the water channels.
Finally were las cuevas; a series of Superb caves hollowed into the cliff face, stretching from the edge of the gardens all the way down to the old Salobrena road below, quite a climb, especially on the return journey. We had to dally a while for Elsa, she was waiting for the lift I'd told her about to bring her back up!
Naturally we finished up in one of the Outstanding bars in this Very Best of all the Pueblos in Andalucía.
Thank you Kees for a lovely walk and I'm sure that by the end of it we were all in agreement that it truly is The Beautiful Village of Velez de Benaudalla.
