Walk 4 December 2016 Mondujar castle

Once again the weather was not looking promising for the weekend, with rain forecast throughout the day on Sunday. It would have been unprecedented for two walks to be cancelled in a row, we would have become a laughing stock. The English walking group afraid to go out in the rain. I was determined we would go somewhere, and, like Hilary last week, I had a back up plan. We could always go to the bar.
We met at the crossroads in Talara and it was dry, but low cloud was hanging about on the hills and it did not look like we would get away without a soaking. The route I had chosen had numerous options to cut it short if it did start to rain. Someone suggested we could start off with a coffee in the bar, but I was worried that once we got sat down I would never be able to motivate anyone into moving.
We set off for MondĂșjar castle, it’s only a short distance away but you do get a reasonable climb to warm you up in the morning. We didn’t stay long as there was a bit of rain in the air. Just down the road in Talara I am informed they had more than a bit, so we were lucky.
Our next scheduled stop was an underground tunnel that used to supply water to the castle, or so we were once informed. Unfortunately as we were approaching it we were surrounded by about 10 dogs. They were all friendly and they just wanted to play with Floppy and two other dogs that had joined us as we set out from Talara. We decided to skip the tunnel and walked off leaving the dogs behind. We took a vote as whether to continue with the walk when we got to a shortcut that would take us back to Talara. Mike was the only one to vote and he wanted to carry on, but he did have his umbrella with him. So with only  7% voter participation the motion was carried, but that’s democracy for you. At least there were no calls for another vote.
The walk continued a bit further uphill before heading down through a wood where we came across a lone walker who wanted to know the way to Niguelas. We pointed him in the direction of the swirling clouds and off he went. We continued with our descent back to Talara.
We stopped at bar Finity for a drink before heading off home. We were lucky with the weather, down in Malaga they had the wettest day for 25 years, we just got slightly damp.
.

We walked 9.1km and climbed 406 metres
