Walk 15 April 2018 Rio Verde

The weather forecast for Sunday was good, but, as we were driving along the carretera de cabra road towards the rio Verde I had the feeling that something had gone badly wrong.
We were driving in fog and every time we went around a corner it got worse. By the time we reached the bar Meson los Prados visibility was down to about 50 metres. So much for advertising a walk with stunning views. I would have been happy to stop at the bar, have a coffee and go home but the others seemed keen for a walk. We continued the drive and as soon as the road started the descent towards Otiva we entered a different world. The sun was shining and there wasn’t a cloud in the clear blue sky.
With our spirits lifted we followed the path down to the petrified waterfall, after all the rain I was expecting it to be pretty spectacular. It was OK but I have seen more water in the middle of a drought. The cave was a lot better.
We followed the path down to to the next waterfall below the Pantano de Cueva and then retraced our steps back to the lake. At first we thought somebody had fallen in as there appeared to be a damsel in distrees in the middle of the lake. We were just debating who was going to go in and rescue her, nobody seemed too keen to dive into a freezing cold lake, when someone recognised her, it was Plym. With that all thoughts of rescue disappeared and off we went to find a nice spot for lunch.
The way back follows a 4X4 track as it climbs its way out of the valley, it’s normally a safe path but this week Plym was poked in the eye, Janice was stung by a bee and on the way down Geraldo slipped and hurt his leg. Prompting  someone to suggest that we get should get a doctor to accompany us on our travels.
We had had a very pleasant walk and this week, for a change, the sun was shining and it was quite warm.  We stopped off at the bar for a drink , unfortunately we were sat in the shade and there was a cool breeze blowing, somehow drinking cold beers and tinto de verano didn’t seem quite right.
We had had a good walk in a stunning location and it was enjoyed by all and, hopefully, we have turned the corner weather wise and summer will soon be with us. Next we will be complaining it’s too hot.

We walked 11.39 km and climbed 573 metres.
